How to start/stop X in Ubuntu, It does not use gdm (Gnome Display Manager) but uses lightdm
To stop the xserver, goto virtual console 1 (Ctrl + Alt + F1)sudo service lightdm stop
To start the xserver, from virtual console 1 (Ctrl + Alt + F1)sudo service lightdm start
To stop the xserver, goto virtual console 1 (Ctrl + Alt + F1)sudo service lightdm stop
